Soul Train dancer Crystal McCarey danced on Soul Train 13 years, from 1976 to 1989, and was often featured on the risers.

In the early years, she wore fashions designed by many talented individuals, including fellow Soul Train dancer, Aretha Jackson, who danced on the show from 1976 to 1986, who was also an amazing seamstress that could sew by sight.

She said when Tamechi Toney-Briggs, intersected with Soul Train, it was like he became the designer of Soul Train, as he had fashion visions for individual dancers.

She believed his concept for her was kind of mermaid, and that he always designed outfits that fit her body line, and liked to give her height and ruffles (as in the tweet above), because he knew she would be swaying with arm movements. He designed her outfits for the last four or five years she was on Soul Train.
